Assassin’s Creed Shadows has topped over two million players, “surpassing the launches of [Assassin’s Creed] Origins and Odyssey”.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows launched on Thursday, 20th March, and by that same afternoon, it had already notched up more than a million players by the afternoon. And as of this afternoon (Saturday 22nd March), another million players had joined the ranks.

There’s still a little ways for Shadows to go until it tops the series’ last big launch, Valhalla, which arrived in late 2020 when many of us were at home, but as Tom summarised for us earlier this month, it arrives at a time when Ubisoft is reportedly considering a sale or some other kind of reorganisation to turn around its ailing fortunes.

“Majestic in scope, impressive in detail, Ubisoft’s epic adventure honours the beauty of feudal Japan, even if its strongest moments are saved for the personal stories of its two protagonists,” Tom wrote in Eurogamer’s Assassin’s Creed Shadows review, awarding it four out of five stars.
