The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered’s Microsoft Store patch, released “for a few backend tweaks”, has inadvertently impacted UI and graphical settings for some players.

While the patch didn’t roll out to those on Steam or console, the update for those playing on PC Game Pass or through the Microsoft Store has seemingly botched upscaling and anti-aliasing.

“Bethesda CM here, first thank you all for your super quick feedback on today’s hotfix,” a member of the community team wrote on the Oblivion subreddit. “The hotfix we pushed live today was for a few backend tweaks and nothing directly impacting game play, but we’ve seen it’s affected some Microsoft Store players’ UI settings for graphical settings. Specifically, related to upscaling and anti-aliasing.

“Any graphic settings adjusted prior to the Microsoft Store hotfix, are still enabled and function normally. You’ll just be temporarily unable to adjust those settings due to the issue with the settings UI.”

The post ends by promising that the team was “taking a look and working out a resolution”, and there’ll be an update from the developers “as soon as we can”.

New update?

However, a number of players took issue with the statement, saying it was “absolutely not true”.

“You guys need to understand this is not true, settings were completely reset upon updating and we have no way to enable without console commands. Please roll back the update ASAP this should be a no brainer, you guys pushed an xbox version patch to the pc,” said one unhappy player.

“Nope, not accurate,” opined another. “Last night I was playing with a smooth 60fps on ultra at 85% GPU load on Ultra at 1440p. After this update I’m struggling to even hit 45 with MAX GPU load and CPU temps spiking. This update definitely broke something.”

“Yeah, this made it completely unplayable on my end,” this player added. “I’m not even sure what y’all did, but I’ll patiently wait for a fix :(“.

At the time of writing, there has been no further public update from Bethesda on the issue for Microsoft Store players, nor an estimated time of completion.

Oblivion Remastered stealth-dropped just five days ago, but it’s already clocked up over four million players. Remade by port developer Virtuos’ Paris studio, in collaboration with Bethesda, this new version is a ground-up remake built in Unreal Engine 5, designed to run at 4K 60fps. There are already over 100 mods available for Oblivion Remastered, even though Bethesda said it won’t offer any official mod support.

If you too are working your way through Oblivion Remastered, but could really do with a few more of a certain item here’s our guide on how to use Duplicate Items glitch in Oblivion Remastered.
