The latest UK charts for physical video game sales are here, and this week Donkey Kong Bananza has punched its way to the top spot.

Fellow Switch 2 exclusive Mario Kart World sits in second place this week, with Hogwarts Legacy in third. Rounding out the UK physical top 5 are EA Sports FC 25, and Robocop: Rogue City – Unfinished Business (a newly released expandalone our Ian said “feels like The Raid: The Video Game”). Death Stranding 2, which debuted at number one just a few weeks ago, now sits at 18 (thanks, NintendoLife).

According to The Game Business’ Chris Dring, physical sales for DK’s latest outing were three times that of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze on the original Switch. Dring also noted that Donkey Kong Bananza sold half of what Super Mario Odyssey did on its launch, but it is worth bearing in mind that when Odyssey released in 2017, the Switch had already been available for a little while. Additionally, Odyssey came out in October rather than July, when game sales are typically less ardent.

While digital sales are generally on the rise, and of course many such as myself will have purchased Bananza this way, Dring added many Nintendo owners still prefer physical media.

“A brilliant core mechanic and clever design twists make Bananza a delightfully sticky 3D platform adventure topped off with a sweet central character relationship,” our Alex wrote Eurogamer’s Donkey Kong Bananza review, awarding Nintendo’s newest Switch 2 release four stars.
