GAME won’t have in-store Switch 2 pre-orders

GAME will not offer Switch 2 pre-orders in stores, Eurogamer understands.

The beleagured brand, once a familiar sight on the high street, will instead have a “small allocation” of consoles available to pre-order via the company’s website. That’s according to the chain’s internal communication to staff, as seen by Eurogamer.

Following various cuts and changes to GAME’s offering made over the past two years by owner Frasers Group, the brand now largely exists as a concession area in other stores such as Sports Direct.

In other GAME news, staff tell Eurogamer of a fresh internal shakeup by Frasers Group. The decision has been made to shut GAME’s head office and main warehouse in Basingstoke, where the brand has been headquartered for more than two decades, with the loss of further jobs expected.

Eurogamer has contacted Frasers Group for comment.

Back in February, GAME quietly U-turned on a Pokémon card price hike that saw £11 sets cost almost triple, following press attention.

Last year, Eurogamer reported on GAME’s various ongoing issues as it is further integrated into Sports Direct’s Fraser Group, and suffers store closures, redundancies, and stock problems.

If you are trying to get a hold of Nintendo’s new console, Switch 2 pre-orders have re-opened at Argos today, ahead of further stock becoming available via Amazon and elsewhere.
