Just when the world needs him most, the caped crusader returns – albeit in tiny plastic form. Yes, the Lego Batman series is back in Legacy of the Dark Knight and it’s coming to Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, Switch 2, and PC next year.

There’s not a whole lot more to report just yet, but Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight’s announcement trailer – as aired during tonight’s Gamescom Opening Night Live – packed in plenty of the Lego game series’ familiar slapstick action, alongside plenty of familiar comic book faces.

We got, for instance, glimpses of the Joker, Catwoman, and Bane – who might just be voiced by Matt Berry if my ears are to be believed. That’s alongside gadgets like the Batarang, that explodey Batgel stuff from the Arkham series, and, yup, the Batmobile careening around Gotham.

Expect plenty more details as Warner Bros. Games’ readies Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight for its release sometime next year.
