Mega Victreebel has been announced for Pokémon Legends: Z-A.

Debuting in a video with strong Blair Witch and urban-exploring-gone-wrong vibes, Mega Victreebel is the Mega Evolution for this classic Gen 1 Pokémon. Pokémon Legends: Z-A will be the first appearance of this form and it’s the second new Mega Evolution to be announced for the upcoming game, the first being Mega Dragonite.

For the non-Pokémon fans, Mega Evolutions are temporary transformations that certain Pokémon can undergo. Doing so makes them more powerful, while also changing their appearance and, occasionally, type.

While whether Mega Victreebel’s type has changed from Grass and Poison remains a mystery for now, its appearance has certainly changed! Victreebel is inspired by pitcher plants, with the majority of its body being the tube where unsuspecting insects – or Pokémon in this case – find themselves devoured. Mega Evolution sees Victreebel looking incredibly well fed and surprisingly bouncy. Meanwhile, its vine has become wrapped around its head, making its mouth smaller. Yet I get the feeling that won’t stop it from eating you…

Considering Pokémon Legends: Z-A is set in the Kalos region – the home of Gen 6 and where Mega Evolution first debuted in the Pokémon universe – there’s a chance we’ll see more new Mega Evolutions in the run-up to the game’s release. We’ve got a list of every returning Pokémon if you want to know whether your favourite Pokémon will be making an appearance in Legends: Z-A.

This is a news-in-brief story. This is part of our vision to bring you all the big news as part of a daily live report.
