Bid numbers in the “multiple millions” are reportedly on the table for the adaptation of EA’s fan-favourite co-op adventure, Split Fiction.

That’s according to Deadline, which said the movie business is “on a much-needed hot streak” after the “smash results” of the Minecraft screen adaptation. Debuting last month, A Minecraft Movie generated $301m worldwide on its first weekend and has been such a success that there are already talks about a sequel, and director Jared Hess has teased where the film series could go next.

“I’ve heard bid numbers in the multiple millions from Sony and Amazon MGM Studios, with the latter in strong position to take it off the table, and it will likely be settled by early next week,” wrote Deadline’s Mike Fleming Jr.

Hot off the heels of the news she is attached to produce a movie based on Sega’s OutRun series, Sydney Sweeney is also set to star in the film adaptation of Josef Fares’ Split Fiction. She will also executive produce the upcoming film, which is being directed by Jon M Chu. Chu’s previous works include last year’s musical hit, Wicked.

Joining Sweeney and Chu on the film are screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, known for Deadpool, Wolverine, and Zombieland.

Split Fiction publisher EA recently praised the game’s “hugely successful launch”, as developer Hazelight celebrates another milestone, this time of four million sales. As part of its report for the 2025 fiscal year, EA said Split Fiction was a key part in leading the company to a “strong finish” alongside EA Sports FC 25.
