The Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 movie trailer features someone who really doesn’t seem to like large presents

A new trailer for movie sequel Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 has made its unsettling debut.

This trailer again gives us a little look at what Josh Hutcherson’s security guard Mike has been doing since the first film (dealing with some anxious trauma, which, you know, is fair) as well as plenty of animatronic beasties doing beastly things.

The second Five Nights at Freddy’s film takes place one year after the original, during which time “stories about what transpired there have been twisted into a campy local legend”. This has, for reasons, led to locals celebrating with the town’s first ever event known as Fazfest. “Former security guard Mike and police officer Vanessa (Elizabeth Lail) have kept the truth from Mike’s 11-year-old sister, Abby (Piper Rubio), concerning the fate of her animatronic friends,” reads the latest trailer’s official blurb.

Abby, though, isn’t going to make life easy for Mike, and during the course of the second film sneaks out to “reconnect” with the likes of Freddy, Bonnie, Chica and Foxy. Oh, poor sweet child, what a fool you are.

This little bit of sneakery from Abby ultimately sets “a terrifying series of events” into motion, “revealing dark secrets about the true origin of Freddy’s, and unleashing a long-forgotten horror hidden away for decades” (dun, dun, duuun).

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is set for release in cinemas on 5th December, because nothing says festive fun like a massive animatronic trying to bring a quick end to your mortal days.

Last year, Hutcherson – who has also starred in The Hunger Games – said the second Freddy-themed movie is “much bigger” and “scarier” than its predecessor. “We’re finding the balance right now of building this world and expanding it in a really cool way but also making sure the characters stay really grounded,” Hutcherson said in October. “That’s something that I really think that we all fought for in the first film, because this world that was created in Five Nights at Freddy’s, it’s so out-there.”

Along with Hutcherson, Lail and Rubio, Matthew Lillard is also retuning for the sequel along with filmmaker Emma Tammi. Jason Blum – known also for the likes of M3GAN and the Halloween series – is producing alongside the game series’ Scott Cawthon.

On its release, the first Five Nights at Freddy’s film scored the second-largest debut of all time for a video game adaptation in the US, coming only behind that of Nintendo and Illumination’s animated Super Mario Bros. Movie.
